Well, I have to tell you: I am very proud about one of my projects that got listet by google for a very strong keyword. I am just number 39 for Pizza in Germany but the domain is moving forwards by herself. I am not doing anything. One of my theses, that google is getting more able to distinguish good from bad content seems to be fullfilled. The domain has exellent content about Pizza, the history of Pizza and how to make a good Pizza. I just placed a couple of links to the domain and I saw that some newsgroups are starting to link to domain just because it has the best content about the history of Pizza.

Well there is nothing more to say: the domain still has Page Rank 0:

Just got a mail from Andy describing her Swiss Gift shop. It’s not that Andy has a shop for Swiss gifts she has an online gift shop in from Switzerland and provides all kind of gifts, or rather “Geschenkideen”. In modern times it is more and more difficult to buy gifts for friends and I guess there is still a need for real gifts. I got tons of virtual gift cards for my birthday and I was happy with them. But the wonderful Comic that my father sent me made me really happy, just a real gift!

German Directory

When it comes up to directories there are many different opinions. Some guys say it’s not worth the effort, some placed their sites on hundreds of directories.

I believe that an entry in an nice directory is always worth the effort or a back link, but the Directory regardless whether its a German Directory or a Directory from the US must fulfill the basic requirements:

- the link must be on an indexed page

- the link should be permanent on the given page

And this is where the trouble begins!

Many German Web catalogs have hundreds of banned pages. I guess that the pages where banned from the index on behalf of double content. Especially German directories running with the German Directory software from edev.de have many banned pages. The reason is simple: this software reads out the meta tags automatically. Webmasters that make entries in Directory are typically doing it on many directories. In a conclusion there are a lot of directories with the same descriptions. And google doesn’t like double content at all.

So if you place your sites on a German Directory make sure that the page is indexed and that you place just unique descriptions.

Many webmasters from the States asked me which German directories I would recommend.

Here is a list of German Directories I would hardly recommend. Some of the German Directories on this page doesn’t require a back link but I heavily recommend you to place one. I you give them a back link your link will normally stay on the given page!

I just found another interessting tool to promote blogs. Its a blogcatalog! The website is easy to use and fast, I was very surprised! I highly recommend them. They even made me this nice button, but I have no idea how to place it my index page.
